The 2014 Big Sit!

It was a beautiful Fall day with great Birds and wonderful fellowship.
The official total for the day was 43 species

The Trees were FULL of
Cedar Waxwings! Gorgeous
birds in adult plumage, as
well as immatures (like the
one pictured directly below).
An abundance of berries,
including Hackberries,
Virginia Creeper, Juniper,
and yes, even honeysuckle,
made for large flocks of busy

The Two Bald Eagles pictured
here were a great treat
...However, not the only
noteworthy fly-overs: The
Double-crested Cormorants
listed above numbered 200!
This Turkey Vulture was
spotted by our young
friend Sky. She is
becoming a good birder
and was a pleasure to
have with us !

Participants played "BIV Big Sit Bingo"
to win Suet Cakes and Bird Seed....prizes were
also given for "First Bird of the Day" and
"First Bird of the Hour".
We awarded a total of 59 suet cakes and 13
bags of seed!
