Team Notes
Weather: Overcast start, very RAINY morning,
clearing in the afternoon. High in the 70s.
Location: Birds-I-View Bird Garden
Jefferson City, Missouri
Time At Location: 12 hours
Notes:
A dozen participants joined us on and off throughout
the day despite some pretty drippy weather all morning.
Unlike all previous Sits for us, winter migrants had not
entered the area yet so were absent from our count.
Still, we enjoyed some nice birds, wonderful company,
and plenty of snacks! Again this year our local River
Bluffs Audubon Chapter helped to make this event
educational and fun. A very special thank you to RBAS
member Betty Richey for being such a hard-working
bird-ambassador at the Sit. Species highlights: a
late-for-the-season House Wren, a very late-in-the day
American Redstart, and
this was the first time in 6
years of hosting the Sit at this location we have
been able to add Ruby-throated Hummingbird
to our Species list!
They were present on and off
most all day at this year's Big Sit, but conspicuously
absent in all previous years. Many thanks to everyone
who joined us for the
2017 Big Sit Bird Count.
