Thanks to all the "Birds-I-View Birders" who came
out to bird with us on Saturday October 13th! We had
a great time in the Birds-I-View Bird Garden...see
the details and our species list below.
Barb Duncan's expertise helped
to make a terrific Big Sit. She identified
the most "new birds" of the day!

Birds-I-View Birders Team Report:

Team Captain: Steve Garr

Weather: Sixty degrees upon arrival, in mid-seventies later. Overcast
most of the day, with thunderstorms at 3:00 pm

Location: 512 Ellis Blvd, Jefferson City, MO (Bird Garden beside
Birds-I-View)
Time At Location: 6:45 am - 3:00 pm continuously, then in between
storms until 7:00 pm!

Highlights were the Lincoln's sparrow, Ruby-crowned kinglet,
Double-crested cormorants
, and very cooperative male and female
Eastern Towhee which let the team clearly observe them for a long time!
We had a fun day of birding with friends and played Birding Bingo using
bingo cards made specifically for this Bird Garden (suet cakes were the
prizes). Even though the 3 pm thunderstorms prevented the folks from
joining us who had planned to "sit" during the afternoon hours, we still had
a great time and were pleased with our 28 species.
A special thanks to
the wonderful birders from our local River Bluffs Audubon Society
who came out to support the event.
Looking forward to next year!

Big Sit participants
also helped us watch
for
"banded" birds in the
BIV Garden ( like this
Chickadee, right). We keep
track of the banded birds
we see as a part of the
Backyard Bird Banding
Project administered by the
Missouri River Bird
Observatory.

LEFT: Thanks to Tammy Simmons
for the use of this TERRIFIC image
of a
Lincoln's sparrow.  This photo
was not taken the day of the Big Sit,
however we did get to see ( and
count!) a Lincoln's sparrow at the Sit .
And even better news...we are still
seeing this little guy in the BIV Bird
Garden as of Oct. 21st!
